Shrikala Bedekar-Joshi



Shrikala Bedekar-Joshi
has had her training in Kathak under the guidance of Guru Smt. Shama Bhate at her school of kathak dance “NAD-ROOP”, Pune.

She has been fortunate to have had the opportunity of being a part of the NAD-ROOP group and hence, has performed under her guru’s guidance on various prestigious platforms in front of renowned artists thus she has gained enough experience about lights, costumes and music.

She has excellent command on footwork and clarity in hand movements. Time and again her performance has appreciated by many renowned artists.
She has been teaching at NAD-ROOP and its other branches since last five years.

She has attended workshops conducted by visionaries like Pt. Birju Maharajji, Pt. Sureshji Talwalkar, Late Pt. Rohini Bhate, Late Pt. Kelucharanji Mohapatra, Pt. Rajendraji Gangani and Smt. Kumidiniji Lakhia, thus enriching her experience in Kathak.

Educational Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce: Higher Second Class
NAD-ROOP final examination: awarded A++ grade
Master’s degree in Dance (Kathak) at “Lalit Kala Kendra”, Pune University: awarded A grade.

Anupama Chandratreya



Anupama Chandratreya is a versatile vocalist in the San Francisco Bay Area. Anupama’s repertoire includes a wide variety of all Gayaki (singing) styles including Hindustani Classical, Light Indian Vocal, Ghazal, Bhajan, Bhavgeet and Folk music. Anupama is one of the few vocalists with unique ability to excel in more than one particular style of vocal music. Anupama Chandratreya is a rare combination of natural talent and grace, with an uncanny ability to sing in a way that speaks to your heart


Biography

Raised in Pune (Maharashtra) India, Anupama was groomed at a very young age in Hindustani Classical music by her mother Dr. Jyoti Dhamdhere. Anupama received further training under the guidance of Ustad Mohamed Hussain Khan and T.D. Janorikar, both well known from the Bhindi Bazaar Gharana. The Bhindi Bazaar Gharana specific ideology indicates presentation based on the system of Meerkhand, a systematic methodology of improvisation and clear intonation. The distinct feature of this gharana employs “Alaap” based Gayaki consisting of smooth meends, gamak, taan, and sargam patterns. Anupama continues to refine her skills under the expert guidance from renowned artist Smt. Veena Sahasrabudhe.

After completing her Masters Degree in Hindustani Classical Music and moving to USA, Anupama continued with her training, riyaaz and performing. Anupama has performed in several music events and delighted audiences in India, USA and Canada, for more than twenty years. Anupama has performed at private functions, community events, charitable fundraisers, non-profit events, Indian classical and light Indian music programs. Anupama has been an active participant in various Ghazal and Shayari events in the bay area. Anupama has performed Marathi bhav-geet concerts with noted music director Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Yashwant Deo, Pt. Vijay Koparkar and other well-known artists. Anupama has served as an honorary judge at various local music competitions.

Anupama established her own Saptak Music School in the San Jose / Cupertino area to preserve, develop and propagate Indian classical and traditional music. She has a large student base from all ages. Today she is recognized as a fine mentor, teacher and artist in the San Francisco Bay area. Anupama has previously been a faculty member of the famous Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Music School. Anupama continues to enrich and pass on the Hindustani music tradition and knowledge to her listeners and students through her concerts and classes.

Anupama released her maiden Ghazal CD “Saugat” and “Pandharichya Vate” a cassette of devotional Marathi songs to her credit. She has performed for several TV programs and provided playback for theater and dance performances. Anupama keeps a keen interest in other curricular activities, and has acted in several stage and theater productions in India and USA.
