Shrikala Bedekar-Joshi

Shrikala Bedekar-Joshi has had her training in Kathak under the guidance of Guru Smt. Shama Bhate at her school of kathak dance “NAD-ROOP”, Pune.

She has been fortunate to have had the opportunity of being a part of the NAD-ROOP group and hence, has performed under her guru’s guidance on various prestigious platforms in front of renowned artists thus she has gained enough experience about lights, costumes and music.

She has excellent command on footwork and clarity in hand movements. Time and again her performance has appreciated by many renowned artists.
She has been teaching at NAD-ROOP and its other branches since last five years.

Anupama Chandratreya

Anupama Chandratreya is a versatile vocalist in the San Francisco Bay Area. Anupama’s repertoire includes a wide variety of all Gayaki (singing) styles including Hindustani Classical, Light Indian Vocal, Ghazal, Bhajan, Bhavgeet and Folk music. Anupama is one of the few vocalists with unique ability to excel in more than one particular style of vocal music. Anupama Chandratreya is a rare combination of natural talent and grace, with an uncanny ability to sing in a way that speaks to your heart

Biography

Raised in Pune (Maharashtra) India, Anupama was groomed at a very young age in Hindustani Classical music by her mother Dr. Jyoti Dhamdhere. Anupama received further training under the guidance of Ustad Mohamed Hussain Khan and T.D. Janorikar, both well known from the Bhindi Bazaar Gharana. The Bhindi Bazaar Gharana specific ideology indicates presentation based on the system of Meerkhand, a systematic methodology of improvisation and clear intonation. The distinct feature of this gharana employs “Alaap” based Gayaki consisting of smooth meends, gamak, taan, and sargam patterns. Anupama continues to refine her skills under the expert guidance from renowned artist Smt. Veena Sahasrabudhe.

After completing her Masters Degree in Hindustani Classical Music and moving to USA, Anupama continued with her training, riyaaz and performing. Anupama has performed in several music events and delighted audiences in India, USA and Canada, for more than twenty years. Anupama has performed at private functions, community events, charitable fundraisers, non-profit events, Indian classical and light Indian music programs. Anupama has been an active participant in various Ghazal and Shayari events in the bay area. Anupama has performed Marathi bhav-geet concerts with noted music director Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Yashwant Deo, Pt. Vijay Koparkar and other well-known artists. Anupama has served as an honorary judge at various local music competitions.

Anupama established her own Saptak Music School in the San Jose / Cupertino area to preserve, develop and propagate Indian classical and traditional music. She has a large student base from all ages. Today she is recognized as a fine mentor, teacher and artist in the San Francisco Bay area. Anupama has previously been a faculty member of the famous Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Music School. Anupama continues to enrich and pass on the Hindustani music tradition and knowledge to her listeners and students through her concerts and classes.

Anupama released her maiden Ghazal CD “Saugat” and “Pandharichya Vate” a cassette of devotional Marathi songs to her credit. She has performed for several TV programs and provided playback for theater and dance performances. Anupama keeps a keen interest in other curricular activities, and has acted in several stage and theater productions in India and USA.

आद्य मराठी गझल गायक म्हणून सुरेश भट आणि संगीतकार यशवंत देव यांनी गौरविले.ज्या वेळी महाराष्ट्रात मराठी गझल गायनाचा कार्यक्रम कोणीच करीत नव्ह्ते तेव्हा गझल गायनाचा तीन तासाचा कार्यक्रम करीत होतो.महाराष्ट्र व महाराष्ट्राबाहेर शेकडो वैयक्तिक कार्यक्रम केलेत.
१९८० ते १९८३ या या काळात सुरेश भट आणि मी,मराठी गझल गायकी लोकांपर्यंत पोहोचावी म्हणून "अशी गावी मराठी गझल"हा कार्यक्रम करीत पदराला खार लावीत एस.टी.ने तर कधी रेल्वेने अक्षरशः महाराष्ट्रभर वणवणलो.या कार्यक्रमाचे निवेदन बहुतेक सुरेश भट करायचे तर कधी कधी डॉ.सुरेशचंद्र नाडकर्णी करायचे.

१९८३ मध्ये"भरारी"नामक मराठी गझल गायनाची पहिली वहिली ध्वनिफ़ित तयार केली. मराठी गझल गायकीतील भरीव कामगिरीबद्दल स्वतः सुरेश भटांनी १९८१ मध्ये "महाराष्ट्राचे मराठी मेहदी हसन " म्हणून गौरविले.

तसेच "गझलनवाज" (१९८२),"Outstanding Young Person"(१९८३),"समाजगौरव"(१९९५),"संगीत भूषण"(१९९६), "Man Of TheYear2001"(यु.एस.ए.),"कलादूत"(२००२),"कलावंत"(२००३), "शान-ए-गज़ल"(२००५),"महाकवी संतश्री विष्णुदास पुरस्कार"(२००६)"गझल गंगेच्या तटावर..."(२००८),"सुरेश भट पुरस्कार" आणि,"गझल गंधर्व" उपाधी(२००९) वगैरे सन्मान मिळाले.

अनेक म्युझिक अल्बमचे संगीत दिग्दर्शन केले असून नुकताच ’काट्यांची मखमल...’ नावाचा मराठी गझलांचा अल्बम युनिव्हर्सल म्युझिक कंपनीतर्फे बाजारात आला आहे.

दिलीप पांढरपट्टे यांच्या गझला सुरेश वाडकर आणि महागायिका वैशाली माडे यांनी गायिल्या असून,संगीत दिग्दर्शन
माझे आहे.
सध्या नवोदित गायकांना मराठी गझल गायकीचे शिक्षण देत आहे.तसेच गझलकार,गायक,वादक यांनी दर महिन्याला एकत्र येण्याकरीता "गझलकट्टा" आयोजित करीत आहे.

रंगरेषांत तळपणारा भास्कर...


जाणिवांना कलात्मक आविष्काराचे रूप देताना त्यांच्यातील कलाकार पूर्णपणे इतिहासात हरवून जातो. रंगरेषा मुक्तपणे कागदावर उमटू लागतात. चैतन्यरूपी सप्तरंग कुंचल्याच्या साथीने अशी किमया साधतात, की ते चित्र पाहणारा थक्क होऊन जातो. एखाद्या दुर्गाची लांबवर पसरलेली अजस्र माची आणि भव्य महाद्वार, कोवळ्या उन्हात झळाळणारे मंदिरांचे कळस, लेण्यांतील मूर्ती आणि चित्र पाहताना त्या ठिकाणचा इतिहास उलगडू लागतो आणि तरुणाईच्या नवनिर्मितीचा ध्यास चित्रांत पुरेपूर उतरल्याची अनुभूती मिळते.

चित्रकार असो वा शिल्पकार, त्यांची भावनांना केवळ कलेद्वारे इतरांपर्यंत पोचविण्याची हातोटी, निर्जीव माध्यमातून सजीव भाव निर्मिण्याची किमया... सारे काही थक्क करणारे असते. कारण पाहणाऱ्याला ती कला काही वेगळा संदेश जसा देते तशी प्रेरणाही. कुंचल्यातून इतके जिवंत दृश्‍य साकारते तरी कसे, हीच उत्सुकता रंगचित्रकार भास्कर तुकाराम सगर व त्यांच्या ग्रुपपर्यंत घेऊन गेली. त्यांनी साकारलेली निसर्गाची, किल्ल्यांची, लेण्यांची व इतर चित्रे पाहिल्यावर तरुणाईच्या आजच्या ज्या काही ठराविक "ऍक्‍टिव्हिटी'ज असतात त्यापेक्षा हे काम नक्कीच सरस आणि वेगळे वाटले.

चिंचोलीराव वाडी (जि. लातूर) या छोट्याशा गावातील शेतकरी कुटुंबातल्या भास्करने पुण्यातल्या अभिनव कला महाविद्यालयात येऊन "जीडी आर्ट'चा डिप्लोमा पूर्ण करेपर्यंतचा प्रवास त्यांच्या चित्रांतील रंगांसारखाच गहिरा वाटतो. आज एक व्यावसायिक चित्रकार होऊनही त्याच्यातील "स्ट्रगलिंग युथ'चा "स्पार्क' जराही थंडावलेला नाही. नवे चित्र साकारण्यासाठी भास्कर आणि त्याच्या ग्रुपमधील मंडळी जेव्हा एखाद्या दुर्गाची वारी करतात तेव्हा त्यांचा दिनक्रम असतो तो चित्र साकारतच गडांवर पोचण्याचा. या कामी त्यांना संजय वाटवे, महेश ओव्हाळ, अनय करंबेळकर, सागर शिरपुडकर व ज्ञानेश्‍वर शेळके ही दोस्त मंडळी सोबत करतात. तहान-भूक हरपून साकारलेली त्या-त्या दुर्गांची अप्रतिम चित्रं परतताना त्यांच्या सोबतीला असतात.

भास्करने साकारलेल्या दुर्गचित्रांपैकी देवगिरी, शिवनेरीवरील शिवछत्रपतींचे जन्मस्थान, तोरण्याची बुधला माची, राजगडाच्या बालेकिल्ल्याचे महाद्वार, पुरंदरचा बिनी दरवाजा, प्रतापगडची माची, सिंहगड, सिंधुदुर्ग, विजयदुर्ग, जंजिरा आणि रायगडची चित्रे अक्षरशः आपण प्रत्यक्ष त्या ठिकाणी असल्याचा प्रत्यय देतात. नुकतीच त्याने अजिंठा, वेरूळ, गांधारपाले, कान्हेरी, भाजे, कोंडाणे, घारापुरी, बेडसा, पांडवलेणी या लेण्यांची अप्रतिम चित्रे साकारली आहेत. अजिंठ्याच्या लेणीतील प्रसिद्ध पद्मपाणी बोधिसत्त्वाचे चित्र तर अफलातून आहे. सध्या तो दर वर्षी वेगळी थीम घेऊन चित्रांच्या दिनदर्शिका करतो आहे.

त्याबाबत माहिती देताना भास्कर म्हणतो, ""चित्रांची आवड लहानपणापासूनच होती, मात्र त्याचे अभ्यासपूर्ण प्रशिक्षण घेण्याची इच्छा पुण्यात घेऊन आलो. कुंचल्यातून काही साकारण्यापूर्वी निसर्गाबरोबर संवाद असावाच लागतो. जेव्हा तुम्ही तो संवाद साधता तेव्हाच ते साकारले जाते. गडकोट, लेणी, मंदिर हा सांस्कृतिक ठेवा उपेक्षित आहे. तरुणांना त्यासाठी खूप काही करता येण्यासारखे आहे. इतरांना आपल्या कलेतून किमान त्या ठिकाणी जाण्याची इच्छा व्हावी, याच भूमिकेतून दिनदर्शिकांची कल्पना सुचली आणि त्याचे काम सुरू ठेवले.''

भास्कर व त्याच्या ग्रुपचे काम दुर्गअभ्यास करणाऱ्या आणि त्या वेगळ्या वाटेवर जाण्याची इच्छा असणाऱ्या युवकांना नक्कीच प्रेरित करणारे आहे. भास्करची चित्रे आज विविध देशांत पोचली आहेत, तरीही तो आहे तसाच साधा आहे. गावाकडच्या मातीशी जोडलेली नाळ आणि पालकांनी दिलेल्या संस्कारांनीच इथवर पोचविल्याची त्याची भावना आहे.

इतिहासअभ्यासक निनाद बेडेकर, प्रा. विजय देव आणि प्र. के. घाणेकर यांचे मार्गदर्शन व कौतुकाची थाप सातत्याने प्रेरित करीत असल्याचेही तो आवर्जून सांगतो.
रंगरेषांशी आणि निसर्गाशी दोस्ती करण्याची किमया साधलेल्या या तरुण मित्राचे काम पाहताना "रंगुनी रंगात साऱ्या रंग माझा वेगळा' असेच वाटत राहते.

Arawind Dr. Arawind D. Thatte
Arawind, a Ph.D. in Mathematics, is an outstanding soloist as well as a renowned accompanist. [He is one of the rare Harmonium players having a good training in the Vocal Music.] He has contributed considerably, towards establishing Harmonium as a solo instrument. He has given many solo performances, and has delighted and held spellbound his audiences with his own distinct classic style. He has done valuable research in music / musicology; {the topics of his research are Shrutee (shades of notes), musical scales, the system of Raagas, techniques of doing Riyaaj (practice), presentation and forms of presentation in the North Indian Classical Music, construction / tuning / technique of Harmonium, Shrutee Harmoniums, etc.} He is a good composer and has created some excellent classical compositions for Harmonium as well as vocal music.
He has written a book – Sangeet Vimarsha – on the North Indian Classical Music. It deals with the theoretical, abstract, analytical, technical as well as the practical aspects of the concerned subject. (It will certainly open the eyes of the musicians as well as the musicologists in many ways.) The book presents and explains so many important points that normally disciples do not get from their Gurus (teachers). It serves the purpose of motivating the students as well as the musicians (the vocalists as well as the instrumentalists).
He is a second rank holder at graduation, in the University of Poona, a first class M.Sc., 'A' grade M.Phil. and a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics.
Excellent tuning, melodious playing, clarity of notes even at high speed, maintaining continuity of notes whenever required, excellent self evolved style of fingering, beautiful cross - rhythmic patterns, various styles of "Jhala", different kinds of "Jaaties" (related to "Laya"), "Tihaees", pure classical performance with a variety of forms of presentation, the Gwalior style of "Tappa"(which is very rarely heard), presentation with the blend of vocal as well as instrumental style with special features of the instrument-Harmonium, are some of the highlights of his performance. He is the first one who has considerably developed and presented 'Layakari' on the Harmonium. Also, he is one of the very few artists who present Tappa efficiently.
Born [1958] in a musical family of intellectuals, with both his father and brother exponents of Harmonium, he naturally learned the instrument on his own as a child. He also played Tabla under the guidance of Late Pt. G.L.Samant. He was trained in vocal music in Bharat Gayan Samaj (Pune). He then received guidance and encouragement from Shri. Suhas Datar and Shri.Sudhir Datar. From 1981 to 1996, he was closely associated with Pt. Jasraj, both as a disciple (for vocal music) and a Harmonium accompanist. He has accompanied Pt. Kumar Gandharva, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Jasraj, Smt. Malini Rajurkar, Smt. Kishori Amonkar, Smt. Mogubai Kurdikar, Dr. Prabha Atre, Smt. Parveen Sultana, Pt . Niwruttibua Sarnaik, Pt. Gajananbua Joshi, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande, Pt. Ram Marathe, Pt. K.G. Ginde, Pt.Balasaheb Poochhwale, Pt.Yashwantbua Joshi, Pt. Jeetendra Abhisheki, Smt. Laxmi Shankar, Smt. Shobha Gurtu, Pt. C.R. Vyas, Smt. Manik Varma, Smt. Gangubai Hangal, Smt. Girijadevi and many others - a large spectrum of a variety of styles. He has participated in 1000 to 1200 classical music concerts. He has also participated in more than 125 programs of Marathi light music - “Mantarlelya Chaitrabanat “. He played Organ with Marathi drama [Smt. Jaymala Shiledar’s group] and with Pt. Bhimsen Joshi’s “Santawani”.
Arawind was the recipient of the first prize in All India Radio solo competition in 1982. He was awarded the coveted First Kumar Gandharva Puraskar from Shri. Ram Pujari Pratishthan (Solapur) in 1993, for his dedication to Indian Classical Music. In 2002, he was awarded the first Bandubhaiyya Chaugule Sanman from Indore [Madhya Pradesh]. In 2003, he was also awarded the Govindrao Tembe Sangatkar Puraskar from the Gandharva Mahavidyalay, Pune. He was awarded Smt. Leelatai Jalgaonkar Puraskar [given by Pt. Appasaheb Jalgaonkar and Ganavardhan, Pune] in the year 2008. Also, he was honored with the title ‘Swar-Lay Ratna’ by Ganavardhan, Pune in 2008.
He has to his credit several music cassettes and CDs, with a variety of vocalists. A Philadelphia based company (Neelam Audio & Video) has published a CD of Arawind’s Harmonium solo in 1996. (This was the first time ever, Harmonium was published on a CD). Alurkar Music House (Pune) has published two recordings of Arawind’s solo. Rainbow Music Company has also published 2 CD’s and Cassettes of his solo Harmonium.
He has developed a special skill in tuning the Harmonium, which has been appreciated by all the leading musicians. He is amongst the very few who tune the Harmonium with great perfection. He has always been very keen on using the Harmonium that is specially tuned for a particular base-note in every concert. He has studied the instrument in great depth to develop an entirely new, logical and appealing style of presenting this controversial but immensely entertaining instrument. He has his own thoughts and approach towards the entire music, particularly towards establishing the Harmonium as a solo instrument. Several eminent musicians have appreciated Arawind’s rational intellectual approach.
He has traveled extensively in the East and West. He has visited U.S.A., Canada, U. K., Germany, Switzerland, France, Kenya, Mauritius, Muscat, Bahrain, Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Morocco, Hong Kong and Singapore for music programs. He has also performed all over India; in the national programs of All India Radio, Television and in almost all the prestigious music conferences.
